01: I’ve been thinking about how much importance we attach to what we’ve already invested in our lives.
I’ve been thinking about how much weight we give to what we’ve already invested.
Time, training, effort, expectation.
I felt this strongly when I was a lawyer. I had spent years studying and qualifying, so leaving carried its own pressure. Part of me felt I had to make all of that investment mean something.
What changed was realising I had to answer the question in front of me, rather than keep answering for the person I had been when I first chose that path.
That has stayed with me.
Sometimes the useful question is simply:
If I arrived here today, knowing what I know now, would I choose this again?
The answer might still be yes.
But if it isn’t, that is worth noticing too.
